Posted my final entry at the beginning of April, but here are some of my build and entry photos. Thank you and good luck everyone. Plenty of competition!!
I have a couple of varying cans off undercoat. Thin, Thick etc. The steering wheel I used the thick PPG auto undercoat I just spray a little bit so it dribbles over the nozzle, dry and then go at it full spray. The effect splatters the undercoat thickly. I dip it in a fine grain sand, dry and then TS-29
Some more work recently. I’m about quarter the way through with the Carbon Fibre decals from Studio27 and doing some work on the steering wheel. The effect is to get a nice suede look which the drivers back then used for steering grip. Brake ducting finish and added with the engine.

Another way to do suede is to buy flocking powder from ebay or art supplies, apply glue to where you want it, pour powder on the model over a sheet of paper to catch powder for reuse. With practice, you can flock the entire interior of a model car, bus, truck, train, etc.
Very nice engine. Bleach is my friend getting rid of that plated chrome… I use to use Autosol as a stripper which was good for polishing real chrome! But Bleach does a better job in a matter of an hour or two.
I’m pretty rough when it comes to airbrushing. $30NZD airbrush sets and a nice medium sized cheap chinese compressor. I decant tamiya spray cans into the hopper and it stretches out the cost of the cans as they can be expensive. The outcome isn’t bad and it’s great for experimenting. I use a strong Resene paint stripper for cleaner for all types…[Read more]
I get the best enjoyment with the salt technique. Never seem to have much luck using the hairspray… maybe the wrong type of can. Looks real nice mate 🙂
Some work carried out today inbetween shifts… love the serenity of model building. Just the start of cabling from what followed on the other day on the Judd Engine. Guage wire is my friend and is very pliable. The plug are from Top Studio and some have been sacrificed along the way…
Wow, thank you for the compliment. I do my best… but I’m never completely happy when it’s finished. I use to do 1/48 and 1/35 military models, but spoilers, wings and diffusers are my sort of thing these days. I’m pretty impressed by the standard on here and it’ll give me ideas for future builds
Thanks Otaku,
Yeah, it’s stuff. Your method is what I normally do. It’s a just the lose clear stuff over the edges, but manage to get to adhere one way or another. Really enjoying this event and seeing everyone’s posts
A bit more work done today with decals and setting the nose into place. I used Microscale to place the original decals into place and to hold well over curves etc. After…
Poke a hole with a needle in the bubbles of the decals and fill it with Micro Sol. Push the air out with a damp q-tip. Maybe a few times until all bubbles are gone.
Thanks Otaku,

It’s good to change things up so as not to get burned out. I can’t imagine building only gunpla my entire life.
In my opinion, there’s no masterpieces or crap builds. Beginners and advanced builders are both human. The only difference is the amount of time, money, effort, etc. spent on a single kit. Skills can be learned fast in this digital age.
Wow, some of the Gundam modelling I’m seeing is just amazing. Shouldn’t you guys be doing Advanced? Despite the terrible Christchurch weather (though we need it after our…
Where do I get some of that Acrylic mold material from? Does it turn into a rubber? I’ve only used a rubber compound in the past to create barrells etc. Do you fill the mold with resin afterwards.
