Gunpla TV – Episode 31 – We build a Bandai Macross Valkyrie!

More Mecha!  Many people have requested it and we’re going to show you as much mecha as we can here on Gunpla TV.  To start things off we’re looking at Bandai’s other major line of snap-fit plastic kits; Macross.  Macross kits are known for their many parts and design complexity and Syd found out first hand what a Macross kit is all about.  Given time constraints we can’t show a step by step build but instead give you an overview of what you can expect.

Have you assembled a Macross kit? If so, what did you think? Why not leave a comment and let us know. You can also submit your Macross kits and we can add them to the User Submission section of Hobbylink.tv.

In this episode:
1/144 HGUC MSN-06S Sinanju Titanium Finish
1/144 HGUC RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Destroy Mode Titanium Finish
1/72 VF-25F Tornado Messiah Valkyrie Alto Custom

  1. I got three MF kits. One Alto custom with the boosters and one with the crazie zendrati style armor. Also have on Messia(?) with the booster. The kits are fantastic. Fragile and hard to transform and pose but look fantastic. The engineering is really on another level. I dig the mecha design even though it has a very different style from typical Gundam kits. A bit expensive but you will appreciate the kit once you start building. Have not painted them yet. A bit scared to paint these guys just because of the number of small pieces and tons of surface details. You also get lots of big decals that make them look mean!

  2. Makes me want to do a Macross kit now. I like how this kit looks in gerwalk mode with the arms out. I still like the older, “classic” designs from Macross; however thee newer designs are so much nicer in design.

  3. It’s good to see that you guys are safe first of all. Second, it’s good to see your business and GunPla kits are back up and ready for business. It must be scary to go through an earthquake, tsunami, snow storm, and a nuclear reactor explosion. Being that I live in the east coast of the US, I never have to worry about those things. Anyway, what’s with the Macross kit? No more GunPla kits? Hm. Have you ever considered doing SD, HG, and or MG “Let’s Build” video series? I’d like to see that.

    • @ Charles We seen your comment on youtube about this as well. Gunpla will always stay our main focus but we feel a bit of extra spice needs to be added here and there. We don’t want to be narrow minded and only dedicate our time to one type of Mecha when there are so many to choose from. They are all great and each have their own positives and negatives, If you love Mecha in general i think you will continue to love our shows even if some are not so Gundam orientated.

  4. I’ve also got a messiah. It looks quite good with all the decals and markings on. Without, not so much… about the titanium finish unicorn and sinanju kits. What’s the best way to remove the nubs? The parts are not undergated so I guess they will leave quite ugly marks. Any ideas?

    @Charles
    It’s obvious that they show us other model kits. They want to sell those as well. 😉

  7. Hasegawa is the best manufacturer of Macross kit by far due to its amazing detailss though they are not transformable. My favorite kit from Hasegawa is Armored VF-0S which i recently built

  8. I have yet to finish decalling my VF-25. I waiting till summer to finish it so I can apply Top coat without it frosting over. I find the transformation between modes very tricky. :O

    I’m looking forward to see some Zoid action!

  9. A bit late maybe, but there’s a Macross kit that hasn’t been brought up in this discussion that I think deserves mention:

    That is the 1:72 Destroid Tomahawk by Wave. The Destroids are non-transforming robots and they played kind of a minor role in the anime: but the Tomahawk is a classic design, and it’s a design that should be familiar to Battletech fans as well (as the original, “unseen” version of the “Warhammer”) It’s a great “walking tank” sort of design, and the Wave kit is a very high-quality model of it.
