Gunpla TV – Episode 18 – HG Gouf Custom! Extra Finish Tutorial!

We were asked if we could paint the new HGUC Sinanju on Gunpla TV and, of course we can!  Watching Syd wield paint cans might be a little boring, so in the first HGUC Sinanju painting episode we will instead show show how to get a particular effect and then its up to you to try it yourself.

  1. You mentioned shield posing/weight issues with the MG Gouf Custom: I recently bought this kit from HLJ, so I wanted to share a bit of info for anybody else who’s got it…
Basically, yeah, if you build the thing normally, it’s not going to be able to hold that giant Gatling at arm’s length. It’ll quickly droop down. However, it turns out this is easily fixed by tightening up the shoulder joint. Just apply a drop of super glue to the ball part of the left arm’s shoulder joint, spread it around, and let it dry. Then when you plug the shoulder back in to the body, it should be tight enough to hold a pose with the Gatling indefinitely.
There’s another tension issue in the shoulders of the MG Gouf Custom as well: the screw that goes into the inner part of the shoulder can’t apply tension to the moving part of the shoulder hinge. You can fix this by taking the shoulder apart and filing down the part that the screw goes into, making it a little bit shorter. This will allow the outer part of the shoulder to come together tightly enough to apply some pressure on the inner part, making the joint much stronger.

  2. Cool looking effect on the Sinanju Syd. I’m almost tempted to pick up an HG Ahead and give it a try.

  4. I’ve a question: if I don’t paint my gunpla, can I use the gloss spray in the normal pieces for the shiny effect?

    Thanks.

    • Hi Jonathan,

For that gold plating Bandai painted the runner in a silver and then sprayed a clear yellow over top. They did the same with the plating on the recent HGUC Delta Gundam.
