Gunpla TV – Episode 23 – 2010 Year in Review Pt. 2

As we approach the end of the 2010 we thought we would take a look back at the year that was for Gundam model kits. Bandai was true to form and unleashed a large amount of product this past year, even more than normal as part of their Gunpla 30th Anniversary so, while we can’t show you every Gundam model kit Bandai brought out in 2010 we can definitely show you some highlights.   This video covers the second half of 2010.  Check out episode 22 to see the first half.

This wraps up Gunpla TV for 2010. Join us in 2011 where we’ll be building a Perfect Grade, finding a girl Gundam, and even venturing beyond the world of Gunpla.

What was your favorite kit from 2010?  Leave a comment and let us know.  Even better, if you’ve got pictures of your favorite 2010-released Gundam, why not submit them and share them with the Gunpla community through GunplaTV?

  6. Best kits I think were:
MG V Dash – great bang for the buck, 4 core boosters, and tons of parts
RG kits – MG and PG features in a 1/144 scale.
MG The-O Very simple kit but looks great with a good paint job. It’s just huge.
HGUC Sinanju- Looks as good as the MG

  7. I recently got into this hobby (with the Astraea in this episode being my first kit), and I’d just like to say thank you guys at HLJ for putting out episodes of Gunpla TV and for entertaining me along with anyone else who watches this. I’ll keep getting more models to work on and improve my skills with the help of you guys. Keep up the great work Gunpla TV! Thanks again!

  8. Those are a lot of kits!!!, i would like to say that you missed the zaku f2000 from gunpla builders and the HGUC MS-07B3 Gouf Custom released in november.
I would like to know how we can ask for a model being produced? I love the Gerbera Tetra desing, but it is discontunued for a long time.
In the other hand, I think that the best kit of the year is the Sinanju too.

  9. My favorite kit of this year was the MG 00 Qan[T]. I would have really appreciated if I won that contest, but I guess I will have to try again next time and save up money and buy it a while later. T_T

  10. The MG O was a downer. They have 4 beam saber handles but only 2 beams. LAME! For a kit that costs so much, why couldn’t they include 2 more beams?

  11. I just wish that Bandai would make a MG Wing Zero Custom version 2.0. They could definitely improve the inner frame and especially the hands so it can hold the Twin Buster Rifle better. They also could improve the feather wing parts so they don’t pop off so easily (and get lost).

  12. 2 things I would have changed with the MG 00 Qan[T] is to include the LED units with the kit and include an Action Base 1 Sparkle Green. I mean it’s the lead Gundam from the ever so popular Gundam 00 movie. Why didn’t they go the extra mile and maybe raise the YEN price a little bit?

  13. The HG Bearguy is something that I’d never buy even if someone gave me the money and told me to buy it and build it…

  14. I’m impressed that Bandai is working through with getting 1/144 HG kits of older series (G Gundam, Gundam X…). I just hope that eventually they do a MG Double X Gundam.

  15. The PG Strike Freedom is like a scale up from the MG version. Not that great IMO but it was a good thing that they made those blue stripes on the rifles as a separate part. I still can’t figure out why they made them stickers on the MG kit.

Anyway, the PG Strike Freedom should have had it’s entire frame in chrome gold (even the parts that aren’t exposed. It was lazy of them to not do that…I mean it’s a PG kit!!!

    COME ON~!!!

  20. This year, the RG RX-78-2 Gundam. It is fantastic. When I opened the box, I was smiling like none other time. So many pieces, so much detail and decals. I’m still building it!

Almost done, got the head, shoulders, accessories, decals and Matt finish to do. I’m definitely getting Char’s Zaku II. I’m also considering to get another RX-28-2 and paint it red – the RX-78CA version. 😀

  23. I was wondering if hlj could somehow restock all the discontinued items that would be awsome

    Reply
    • @ Darth the items are discontinued, which means its usually the manufactures that have stopped making them so its impossible to order products that are no longer made.
It is a shame that many great products are discontinued but we have no say in the matter sadly.

  24. My current favorite of 2010 would have to be the HGUC Sinanju. But this is because I actually have one.

I should probably pick up that MG Red Frame Kai sometime in the near future.

  29. I have a question: is the 1/144 HGUC MS-18E Kaempfer better or the 1/100 MG MS-18E Kaempfer better im thinking of buying one of them.

  30. Hey syd could you PLEASE review the 1/144 HGUC GP03 Dendrobium.

  31. For me, I have to go with the RG Gundam RX-78. It’s about as close as the real 1/1 scale gundam as I’m going to it, and the articulation and details on this kit are crazy! Overall a great experience that I highly reccommend!

  32. Regarding the HGUC Kampfer vs. the MG Kampfer:
The HGUC is a teeny tiny bit more accurate to the original design (it’s got wider shoulders and a slightly bulkier-looking chest block) and it’s more poseable as well.
Still, if I didn’t have a Kampfer and wanted one I’d probably go with the MG. Since it’s molded larger and with a higher parts count, that means there will tend to be sharper detail and fewer draft angle issues. Either kit is kind of a fixer-upper to my mind, but the MG gives me a better starting point despite being slightly less accurate. For the price difference (1800 yen vs 4000 yen MSRP) I think it’s worth it. The MG is more expensive than the HGUC but it’s not that bad – and in my opinion the value is a lot greater.
Of course, that’d be my decision according to my preferences. Your ideas of what makes a kit great could be totally different.

  33. My favorite was the MG Full Armor Gundam. My question though is why Bandai is dragging their feet on the release of the RG Zaku II. Its nothing more than Char’s Zaku in green. Just shoot some green plastic into the molds, snap some pictures for the box and their good to go. Should have been doing that simultaneously with Char’s unit. Its giving me flashbacks of their refusal to release a MG Guntank all those years ago.

  35. I’d have to go the RG RX-78-2 as best kit of the year, The amount of parts and detail, as well as the multi-colour armour, just amazes me in 1/144 scale.
I’ve also got the RG Zaku II as well, its set up next to my MG Zaku II. The RG puts the MG to shame. The 150ish stickers make the RG look increadible, even if it did take 3-4 hours to put them on. Worth every second for all that detail.

    MG Quan (T)
    MG PMX-003 “The O”

  39. My favourite kit for 2010 and quite possibly the most fun I’ve had building gunpla was the ReZEL. I don’t know if I was nodding off but I didn’t notice it in the wrap up?

  40. ^I should explain ^^; Not to say it was boring at all, I just did some Gunpla TV catchup last night and it was nearly 2am by the time I caught up. In doing so I have generated within myself an interest in the PGSF where previously I had little. Very effective guys!

  43. The name of the model featured in ep. 20 is the 1/100 MG XXXG-01D Gundam Deathscythe.

    My ideas are:
    1. Hobbylink Backdrop: Th gunpla models in the background are nice but really don’t do the models any justice. If you have a professional backdrop featuring some of the popular models and the web address (http://www.hobbylink.tv/category/gunplatv) as well. This would look better and give you the opportunity to make the models stand out more.

    2. Interviews: I would love to see interviews with the gunpla toy designers and mechanical designers for the Japanese anime industry. These interviews would be awesome as you could ask them about their conceptual process, the tools they used and the experience that lead them to their currant position.

    3. Model of the Month: This segment could feature Syd’s opinions on the various models he has built in the past. Focusing on his favorite models, while discussing what made them challenging or fun to build would be great.

    4. Fan corner: Have fans send in pics of their gunpla models along with a short paragraph or two of why and how they got into gunpla. They could discuss their early experiences, some of the lessons they have learned and generally express their joy for the hobby.

Though I have made these comments, I really enjoy the show and the work you guys put into it.

  44. I hope to all that is holy that ‘finding a girl gunpla’ does NOT equate to ‘picking up a pink one and saying LOOKS! it’s for girls!’

As a girl, a parent, and a gunpla builder, you can do better.
