Gunpla TV – Episode 11 – Dry Transfer Tutorial – MG FA Gundam Finale

This episode of Gunpla TV concludes the Master Grade Full Armor Gundam which was selected by you, the viewers.  And what a great choice it was!  Bandai’s new, highly articulated inner frame combined with the addition of full armor parts make this Ver 2.0 kit really stand out.  We had a lot of fun building this guy, and of course a lot of fun making the videos and want to say a big thank you to everyone who took the time to watch and comment with their thoughts and questions.   If you’ve built the Full Armor Gundam or are in the process of building it, please let us know what you think of it.

What’s next for Gunpla TV?  A Perfect Grade? After-market parts? Kit-bashing? It’s Gunpla! The possibilities are endless.

1/100 MG RX-78-3 G-3 Gundam Ver 2.0
1/100 MG RX-78-2 Gundam Ver 2.0 with Special Clear Armor Parts

Here is the portion of the manual that was shown in the video.  You can see that, for the foot piece of armor that was used, a larger piece of the gel strip was required. The kanji 大 means you are using a larger piece of gel strip while the kanji 小 indicates using a small piece.

  1. Just got back from Japan but didn’t have any space to take any flat Topcoat with me. Do you know if there a similar product like it in the US? Or are you ever going to start carrying it again at HLJ? Thanks!

  2. Great video as always!, i had problems with those Dry transfer decals before with my MG Exia ignition mode, i guess i know how to deal with those decals now. Perhaps Acrylic painting guide would be great.

As for MG FA Gundam, i see the armor parts is quite similar with 1/100 Wildwurger in terms of parts covered by the armors.

  5. Hey Syd,

Thank you very much for going over the dry decals! 🙂 Helped a lot actually seeing how you apply them. I actually purchased the Full Armor Gundam after watching this show so… good job 😉

Cant wait to see whats next! Thanks again.

  6. It’s spelled “Char” but it’s pronounced “Shar”… I’ve got to say I’m a bit disappointed in the upcoming RG Zaku. The RG Gundam was a nice mix of older MG Gundam designs, it hit a nice balance with a detailed look and a nice take on the old Gundam’s style… I’d hoped they’d do similarly with the Zaku, maybe taking some cues from the MG Zaku v1.0 or doing something new – instead it’s pretty much a scale-down of the MG Zaku v2.0. Ah, well. I’m sure it’ll be a terrific kit all the same.

Also, personally I never had much luck doing these kinds of marks with toothpicks. Too small, too fragile. One common option is to use a pencil. The nice thing about using a pencil is that it will quickly grind itself down to a smooth, rounded point which will be very good for applying pressure to different areas of the carrier film…

Dry transfers have two very nice characteristics: they can be applied onto absolutely any kind of surface, and once applied they look “painted-on” – which is a look that can be difficult to achieve even with water slide decals. When I say “any kind of surface” – water slide decals are best applied over a gloss coat, but dry transfers do just fine without an undercoat of gloss, and they do very well on rough or even textured surfaces that are more challenging for water slide decals.

  11. Hey jeppa – what sort of things are you interested in seeing in a LED tutorial? I don’t know if I’d be able to do it by the end of the year but I’ve been thinking of doing one.
There’s a lot of ways something like that could go. There’s a lot of nice, ready-to-go aftermarket stuff these days, but I usually prefer to work with basic components…

  13. I’d really like a vid about kitbashing, I’m planning to make a GM light armor so it would be nice to get some pointers =P
A vid about painting would also be nice.
