Hi all, just a quick question. Can anyone give me pros and cons of pre shading and post shading please.

    • I’m like you I will soon try myself on pre shading. I’ve already trained myself on spoons for now.
From all the videos I saw on this I can say that there is two main techniques on pre shading:
      – Draw black lines where your shade is then paint over it.
      – Paint a darker base color on all the part then highlight it with your normal lighter color leaving the darker areas for the shading.
I tried the last one because I thought that its the simple one for starters. Drawing lines with an airbrush requires a good skill that I don’t think I have yet since I just started airbrushing. Finally it’s a simple technique to use. For the highlights just think to thin your paint properly and adjust the air flow to around 15 PSI because you’ll be painting very closely. First give a little spray out of the part in case there is any excess of paint in your nozzle then start gently directly on the part relatively close, going in circles avoiding the desired shaded areas.
I did that an a dozen of spoons and it worked pretty well.

For post shading I never tried that but most vids I saw where involving weathering pigments like the ones that Tamiya or Gunze Sangyo sell.
