I might have to bow out of this thing. My current plans (already delayed for months for various reasons) just aren’t really compatible with the rules of this contest.
I dunno, I may still give it a shot.

    • My plans have been delayed as well, and i didnt consider the contest until three days ago.. So you’re not the only one who is falling behind.. Also, how is it that your plans arentcompatible with the guidelines?

      • I want to make a video build series. If I build something for the contest, I wouldn’t be able to publish videos of it until February. (I even asked if I could work it out by posting the WIP videos only on Hobbylink.tv during the contest period, and then publish them more openly after the contest period was over. That was a no-go.)
Previously I was thinking I’d have already had the series off the ground by now, maybe even have a couple builds completed, so maybe doing a build in November/December and not posting WIP videos until February wouldn’t be so bad… But at this point I’m starting to get really frustrated with myself for not making these build videos happen yet, so I’m no longer OK with sitting on footage for three months.
I would have liked to be a part of the contest, and I really don’t want to bow out, but at this point it seems like it’s just not gonna work out. The videos are just more important to me.

        • Ah, I’m sorry that it didn’t work out. But considering the alternatives, you could change to a contest that demands less time and work on advanced modeling as a sideline project instead. Or I guess you could look for a new contest instead. But those are just the alternatives I could think of at the moment. By the way, I’d like to check out your build videos on youtube. Where can I find them? 😀

          • Well I don’t want to switch down to intermediate category, if that’s what you mean. If you really did mean a different contest… I already do that, going to California for SCGMC next weekend(!), should have a newly-completed Rick Dias in tow. If I can somehow manage to fix those blasted stubborn seam lines on the legs, that is…
I appreciate the interest – I’ll be sure to let everybody know where to find the videos once the first one is ready.

    • You should still give it a shot! 🙂 we’ll still be learning from you whether you pursue the contest, or make a separate build video series or better (if possible) both. 😀 and good luck in your California contest. 😉

      • Thanks, I appreciate it. I kind of doubt I’ll be able to do much of anything for the HLJ contest at this point, ’cause if I start a build for the video series… Just building a MG for my build video could easily take up the entire two months remaining in the contest. Adding in the work required to shoot and edit a video (which I really haven’t done before) is kind of pushing it as it is. Going further still and building a second model in that period, even if it’s not good enough to be a true contender in the contest, may be flat-out infeasible for me.
I doubt my Rick Dias will be good enough to win anything at SCGMC (I’ve been trying to get it done quickly, so it’s not necessarily my best work) and it’s kind of a drag to go all the way out there without anything really competition-worthy to show. But at least I’ll have something, even if it’s not super-great it’ll at least be pretty good. I’d feel pretty bad if I had nothing to show at the contest (esp. after spending all the money to fly out there) but it’s also about getting together with some of the modelers I know online but don’t see in person that often. Since the contest is Gundam Wing themed this year I’m hoping I can get some games of Endless Duel going. 🙂

        • Just build and post pictures, I doubt your gonna keel over yomorrow or some time soon so do another build after amd video log that one?

          • I’ve been in the hobby for a while now and in that time there have been some projects that just never got done ’cause of one delay or another. I love participating in contests but chasing those deadlines can be very disruptive toward my long-term goals. I’ve already put this project off longer than I wanted to.
And for that matter, the kit that I want to build for the video is just sitting around unfinished. I wanna get on with it already.

    • Megabummer. 🙁
