Here’s another old build of mine: the Hasegawa VF-1 Battroid.
I frikkin’ love this kit. I always used to refer to it as “The Greatest Injection-Molded Mecha Kit of All Time, Space, and Alternate Dimensions.” I feel like it’s a kit that has its priorities straight – minimalist construction but loads of quality detail on the exterior. Bandai is kind of the opposite – it’s one of the things that really bothers me about their products…
Sadly, perfectionist that I am, I scrapped this model to repaint it, but never finished the work. (Most of the kit’s painted white, but some areas it’s painted over a gray primer and other areas over a white primer – so the color wasn’t quite uniform… Somebody pointed it out to me, so I set out to fix it… Which is totally stupid, I should have just accepted the flaw in that build and built another one.) There’s a lesson in there somewhere…
love the kit as it is.
To me, perfection is boring. Flaws are the spice of life, even in model kits.
great work!
Well, can’t really agree there… The thing is, when it comes to flaws in a model, some of them can break the illusion that the model creates, making it look cheap or toyish. That is exactly the sort of thing I try to avoid in all my work.
But flawed or not, I really wish I hadn’t scrapped it. Instead of a flawed, painted model built from one of my favorite kits ever, built back in the day when I was still relatively new to the hobby – instead I have just a head and torso in a box somewhere. Such a waste.
I keep meaning to include a link to the rest of the photos, and keep forgetting. linky
Very cool and gives me an idea of what my Strike Battroid VF-1S will look like upon completion. Really dig the poses too. 🙂
