Ok, this question may be redundant, but would someone please let me know what we can or cannot do for this category? I’ve seen people repainted, airbrushed, used heavy decals, weathered, or battle damaged their kits. If there’s a clear set of rules I can follow, that’d be great.

    • From what I can tell from the description; “For those who may be new to plastic modeling. Some panel-lines, decals, a touch of marker here or there and even hand painting is accepted.” In this category we basically just do out of the box builds, panel line, apply decals and can do some touch-ups with hand painting. We sorted out at the start of the contest that we can clear/flat coat our kits as well.

I’m not sure whether battle damage and weathering go in this category or Intermediate, however @ryan may be able to help us with that.

I think that airbrushing is Intermediate, simply because it says “even hand painting is accepted.”
in this category and I think that repainting and most other kinds of painting also fit into intermediate as it says “Making the model your own. Give it a whole new paint scheme or a look all its own.”

This is just what I’ve guessed, so others may have a clearer understanding of the rules.

      • I got the description, but I keep seeing people doing this and that to their kits and I thought I should keep adding stuff too, then again I won’t be able to get the same result. I’m just curious that’s all. Thanks for replying.

      • So based on the description given in the category. I would say that only a small amount of painting with Gundam markers and had painting are allowed. If you do a fill paint job then you should move up to Intermediate. Again this is all up to the judge to see if you kit should be moved up or down a level. So I have just been working on mine and will see what happens. If i get a prize great if not I had fun building the kit and seeing what everyone else had done.

    • Place the kit in the category you feel most comfortable with. When you submit your final kit to be judged we’ll move it if we feel it is in the wrong category.

      • Oh, I thought you guys are reviewing kits right now and move them accordingly before the final judgement. Thanks for replying Ryan!

      • I, too want to see some more specific rules. I’m thinking of painting all of the yellow and black on the Crossbone, and maybe paint the inner frame as well. Would that be considered intermediate? I saw the entries in the Beginners Category for last years contest, and some were almost fully painted.

    • The thing is, its hard to tell. You can try to do battle damage but do it at a beginner level. You can try painting but also do that at a beginner level. Overall, we just have to submit the kits and let the judges sort through them

      • Thing is if we know what the limit is, then it’s easier for us to perfect those points instead of throwing a bunch of gunpla beam sabers at a dartboard and see which one sticks.
