Hey guys I have a question:
Before i do a panel wash with enamel, do I have to use a clear gloss coat ? I also heard that it helps with decaling as well.
One of the reasons a gloss coat is usually desirable before a wash is that washes behave differently on gloss surfaces vs. matte surfaces. Matte paint has a rough surface (on a microscopic level) – this forms all kinds of little recesses in which paint from the wash can become trapped – which means that it’s harder to clean up any excess paint from the wash that appears in places where you don’t want it. A gloss coat is very smooth, which makes it relatively easy to wipe off excess wash.
There are techniques in which a matte coat’s ability to “capture” a wash is actually beneficial – for instance “filters”, in which a wash solution is applied irregularly over the surface of the model to modulate the color… If you tried that on a gloss coat, it would rub off too easily. But when using a wash for lining, generally you want to remove anything not in those recesses.
thanks guys….but sadly my local hobby store says they dont sell clear gloss coat anymore T-T
