I will start this discussion by giving my favorite series… which is actually a lot tougher of a question than I had thought. I think I would have to say my favorite would be the one that introduced me to the series. I remember watching Gundam SEED waayy back when on Toonami, and that started my… damn near decade of love for the entire franchise. So far I have seen almost all of the UC timeline, with the only ones remaining being Double Zeta and Victory. I have seen everything in the SEED/Destiny timeline, Wing, 00, and… most of AGE, which did leave a bad taste in my mouth, along with reading every bit of translated manga I could find.. though mostly from Zeonic Translations and they haven’t actually finished anything I think… I am in the process of watching ZZ, but if the first episode is any indication of how bad I heard it was then I might not finish… and I’ve ranted on long enough, let me hear what you all have to say! This can be a discussion about any Gundam media form, anime, manga, hell even the video games if you have em! Let me hear what you have to say!

    • ZZ being bad or not is a matter of opinion or what you like about that ceratin anime. I’ve heard people badmothing Turn A, AGE, Seed but never ZZ. It’s such an old anime that most either didn’t bother watching or they forgot about it. Most of people never watched 0079 for the same reason and I think if you’re watching Universal Century, you should know what happened there, right? And watch all of it regardless. To me, Universal Century was the best story-wise. All kinds of history shit happened back in the UC and is still happening with the Unicorn. They promised and are probably working on Origin as we speak so that will be kind of a fresh start for 0079. We had Char wanting to kill everyone, trying to be a good guy than wanting to kill everyone again, countles of incarnations of that same dude throughout every series, we had some epic suits, we has Zeon going through it’s transformatons, and Bright Noah just being himself etc etc. And it’s a real space saga that it should be. AGE couldn’t touch it and I think it shouldn’t. It wasn’t all that bad per se but it wasn’t all that good either. To me, SEED was the best when it comes to single series. The story was amazing and touching at the same time. Sme action scenes were awesome and all but Destiny was a bit borning to me and almost half of it I watched while looking at my watch to see when it ends. And I’m not some 15 year old. I’m a 33 year old guy so I like to have a full perspective into the storyline, characters and mecha design. Some people prefer action scenec and they keep fastforwarding or even skipping episodes until they get to a good one but I like SEED just because it had a LOT of scenes that weren’t like that. Loved Turn A for the same reason. To me Turn A was something a bit different, but in a good way. With the most persuasive and the most intersting character of them all, Harry Ord. Being a Char clone he took Char and pushed his character up by a notch or two, if not more… And what about G Gundam? Anyone watched that one? Brave Battle Warriors?

      • Not to say I am not going to watch ZZ, I am actually watching it now if only to say I have watched the entire UC timeline. It just isn’t grabbing me the way the rest have, and I heard until Tomino starts directing it again about half way through it doesn’t get much better. AGE just tried to be for kids, realized it couldn’t, then went back to trying to be for kids and still realized it couldn’t. The first ‘season’ was… passable, with the second being the best of what I saw. I could not finish the Kio arc because I could not stand him. It is all a matter of what you want from a show at that point. And I am one of the few people I know who did not like G-Gundam. As a preference, I don’t really like ‘super-robo” and that touched way to close to it for me.

    • Started watching with 00, which I enjoyed all bar the movie. Seed was great, Destiny less-so, but still enjoyable. I couldn’t get into Wing at all, even though some of the characters were really fun. I’m in the middle of 79 (I guess Seed is good because it’s just a re-telling of 79 for the most part), and have watched a few episodes of most of the other series but not sat down to properly watch them through yet.

    • ZZ Gundam gets fine after episode 15 or so. When the “comedy” attempts end.

My favourite is Zeta Gundam, story, characters, mobile suits, I love all of it, I have watched it 3 times now. Actually, I have seen all of UC at least 3 times, except for Victory and F91.

I really like Unicorn too, amazing music, amazing visuals and gripping enough story for me.

And I have to mention 08th MS team as well, since I love releastic looking mobile suits, ie panel lines, writing on them etc, I cant not like 08th MS.

      • 08th MS team was amazing because it exemplified the feelings of being in war so much better than anything else, even now… and just by the fact that it was amazing. It wasn’t a ‘fall into the cockpit’ scenario, these were trained soldiers and it showed… despite the attempt at romance. War in the Pocket should be mentioned too, it got the point of ‘War is hell’ very well across.

    • It’s hard for me to actually pick just one series. I was fortunate enough to start off with the original series which really exposed me to giant robots. That being said, while it does hold a special place in my heart, I can’t say it’s my favorite. That title belongs to the 08th Mobile suit team. I loved the overall gritty-ness of the series. It was like Gundam meets Platoon, a concept I wish would appear more amongst the many series. You get hints nad teases of it when you watch nameless soldiers duke it out in Unicorn, but never has another series really brought that kind of “environment” to the table in my opinion. I’d love to see another series like this from the standpoint of Zeon (fanboy of the mobile suits moment).
