Intakes and main wheel bays painted.
The fit of the intakes to the fuselage is so-so. Needed some clamping while glue dries. And the whole fuselage glued shut.
For Flankers it’s easier to paint the metallic parts at the rear end before gluing the tails, so they won’t be in the way.
First the primer, I also gonna replace the original photoetch afterburner flameholders since they’re pretty flat. I made some custom photoetch.
The rear fuselage got a base coat of Alclad Magnesium, while the resin exhaust got base coats from left to right of Exhaust Manifold, Steel, Burnt iron and Magnesium.
Then I paint random stripes of pale burnt metal on the rear fuselage and the odd inner petals from the exhaust.
Then we follow with mistings of jet exhaust, more on certain places than others and on the panel lines. The exterior part of the exhaust were painted jet exhaust on each odd petal. The little service panels on the rear fuselage were painted with Aluminium.
Finally some clear blue for the burn/heated metal effect.
After this, I’ll need to mask off the metallic parts, the intakes, wheel bays, glue the tail and fins and the little tidbits that didn’t want to knock off while handling and start working on overdrive in the rest of the painting and decaling.
