Hi I just started building custom gundams and I wanted to know what the best way to paint my gundams? I don’t have an airbrush yet but there are so many ways to paint gundams but I don’t know which way to do it?

    • There are a few options left for you. You could choose to hand brush the models, but this is a very time consuming way to do it. A big advantage is that you can mix your own colors just like you do with an airbrush. If you don’t mind brush strokes, you can brush the color right on. If you don’t want brush strokes, dilute the paint with the the recommended thinning agent. For more information on this you can search trough the Q/A & Help section or send me a reply here. When brushing the paint on, do it in a few very thin coats and let the paint cure for a few hours between coats. The first two coats will leave the plastic color still coming trough if you are doing it right. The 3rd or 4th coat will give the coverage you are looking for. On how much you need to dilute the paint depends on the thickness of the paint itself. A good consistency is that of a thick chocolate milk. I used to do it for a few years and had great results with it back in the day.
Then there is the option of using rattle cans. This is somewhat the same as using a airbrush. This must only be done in well ventilated places, as most rattle cans contain lacquer based paints and these are very hazardous for your health. And there is the problem of color choice. And some rattle cans are not mend for plastic. These need a plastic primer first. In most cases, the Tamiya and MrHobby cans are up to the job. Also the pigment in these paints is smaller then say rattle cans mend for automotive goals. These will work too, I’ve used them a lot and have a very wide color range but they have a slight bigger pigment in them which can obstruct panel lines a such.
I hope this helps you out. If you need more information, please let me know via a reply here, a PM or you can always try the Q/A & Help section on this site. You might get more answers from different people over there. Good luck and happy building wished to you

    • Use Mr. Hobby Levelling Thinner when you are painting with a brush. It will prevent the paint from drying up too quickly thus having time to settle evenly and prevent brushmarks.

    • Maybe you should try with spray can first..tamiya spray can is expensive but its easiest way to go
