Following the unboxing, here is the review for the new Ver ANIME MSM-03C Hygogg from the classic anime Gundam 0080. This is one of the best releases in the Ver ANIME range and Bandai Spirits has done a brilliant job of bringing this mecha to life.

This is one of the few Hygogg toys ever made and a lot of love has been poured into it, so if you are a fan of Yutaka Izubuchi’s designs from Gundam 0080 then you will not be disappointed.

This set is pretty comprehensive, with all manner of accessories and effects parts – from additional claw fingers to the jetpack and hand missile containers.

The effects parts allow you to have the Hygogg launch the hand missile as per the anime and also set up the mobile suit for its boosting configuration, with jet plumes at the rear.

Ideally, you will need a Tamashii Stand (sold separately) to get the most out of these effects parts but its definitely worth it once it is all set up.

Moving onto the articulation, it is very comprehensive. The lengthy arms are extensively jointed. The hand cannons can also be pivoted and the claw fingers can be individually moved.

The legs and hip are very sturdy as to the joints, so this Hygogg toy is surprisingly poseable.

In addition, the mono-eye can swivel and you can also have the guard slide up and down.

One nice addition is a hand part that allows you to have the Hygogg grapple the head of the GM Cold Districts Type (sold separately) as per the combat scenes in the host anime.

The big thing for me is the sculpt though. A lot of modern figures of Izubuchi’s designs don’t capture his sleek and elegant style. This Hygoog toy definitely does though and it is spot on to the anime. The detailing is fairly minimal but the Cyclops Team emblem is nicely done, as are the other markings.

All this together makes for one of the best Ver ANIME toys and as such, I can thoroughly recommend this Hygogg toy, especially if you are a fan of Izubuchi’s mecha design work and enjoyed Gundam 0080.
