Considering the ongoing success of the Ver ANIME toy line for Mobile Suit Gundam, it would make sense that Bandai Spirits would eventually get around to covering the YMS-15 Gyan. A classic and unique mobile suit from the original series, this toy certainly doesn’t disappoint.

The Gyan was a special prototype made by the Zimmad Company and was piloted by master Zeon strategist and rare porcelain collector M’Quve. Focusing on close combat, it had a very powerful beam saber and a shield with a variety of missiles and other bombs.

It was also a very visually distinctive design that emulated elements of traditional European knights, as well as the pickelhaube on the helmet. Naturally, this meshed well with the close combat focus of the mobile suit and as such has become a fan favorite over the years.

Considering how pretentious and pompous M’Quve was as a character, the Gyan was definitely a design that matched that very well and it’s nice to see it finally given the Ver ANIME treatment.

Obviously, we have had all manner of kits and toys of the Gyan over the years but none have retained the Kunio Okawara infused proportions of the original design, nor coupled that with excellent articulation.

While this is definitely one of the more curious mobile suit designs from the original Gundam, this is a very nice interpretation of the Gyan.

The review will be up soon, so keep an eye out for that.
