1/72 Combat Armor Dougram by Max Factory (Part 1: Unbox)

1/72 Combat Armor Dougram by Max Factory (Available From HobbyLink Japan – HLJ.com)

This is the main character from the 1980’s anime Fang of the Sun Dougram.   This kit is from Max Factory, well known as the manufacturer of Figma and more. I’m looking forward to trying one of their plastic models!

Sharp cover art in a fitting classic style.

1st in the series, in 1/72 scale.

Almost exactly the same size as a Bandai Real Grade.

Color shots from around the box, showing an interesting looking piece of machinery.

DSCN2685
The backpack seems particularly interesting.

DSCN2686
Nicely printed manual which surprisingly has more than just black and white inside.

The plates laid out in a familiar style.

Along with a typical build page, with lots of white in the background.

DSCN2689
Nice full color splash page, where you may notice there aren’t too many crazy poses.  But it’s looking like a very nice classic mech.

And finally a plate of clear parts with some of them even pre-colored.

Just by looking at the plates, I’m curious where this would fall in Bandai’s grading system, perhaps between HG and RG, as it will depend on the gimmicks. But one thing for sure is the carvings on the parts really catch the eye. With those details and color variation on different plates, I think it will be a good-looking kit right out of the box, with. Combined with the retro look of the packaging, the overall design seems fun, so I can’t wait to see it put together!  Thanks for checking this out.

“It’s been a long wait since the 80’s, nut we still look pretty cool.”

  1. Hmmm. Hadn’t even heard of the “Fang Of The Sun Dougram” anime until I read this article. Had to look it up on A.N.N. to find out what it was about. Looks interesting.

In regards to the kit, I like it that Max Factory went the extra distance with adding colour to the basic assembly instruction pages for the actual build. Important notes actually stand out. From looking at the images of the Colour Guide, though, I wish they’d included paint identification numbers. The lines on the parts themselves look pretty sharp and clean. Additionally, having some of the clear parts pre-coloured is a nice touch. Just wish the figure was pre-painted.

Looking forward to the build review.
