1/144 HG Shiranui Akatsuki Gundam Review

1/144 HG Shiranui Akatsuki Gundam

I picked up my old Hobby of Gunpla after I saw the RG Gundam RX78-2. Having build it, I was back into the game. But I found myself a bit rusty and lazy to build anything as complex as a MG. I looked trough my stack of kits that I collected over the years and chose the 1/144 HG Shiranui Akatsuki Gundam that I picked up a few years back.

The build is quite easy and the manual is well put together. I found the under gating to be very nice, this reduced the spots that I need to retouch when it comes to paint. Overall the kit needs minimum retouching because of gate marks.

For a HG kit it comes with quite a few gimmicks, and pose ability. The Funnels can be attached to booster type effects which give the launching effect. the can swivel an be posed as cannons. The beam saber and beam rifle can be stored on the  side skirts

A few of the things that I don’t like about this kit is that for one there is only 1 pair of hands. If you wan’t to change weapons you need to remove the side armor of the hands to place the weapons. It’s quite hard to panel line this kit, cause of the gold foil finish a normal line marker doesn’t quite do it. I’ll probably will need to panel wash it when I start painting up the shield and the tips of the funnels.

Overall I enjoyed this build and it doesn’t need a lot of work to look good. For a HG, it’s got a good amount of poses it can take. If you don’t mind getting out the paint to finish the panel lining this kit is really worth it.

  1. It’s lovely looking gold coated kit, the 1/100 variant is very good too. 🙂

  2. What kind of paint did you use to retouch the gate marks? Did didn’t you have to repaint the entire kit just to get an even paint look?
